one of the nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is we are doing and devote our attention to eating. |

This was an excellent hike.
Dushanabe Tea House
1770 13th St.
Boulder, CO
Quite possibly our favorite place to dine out in Boulder?
Apparently, Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikstan, is Boulder’s sister city, -and in 1987 this gorgeous place was donated for our enjoyment. The bright colors and geometric designs are absolutely fascinating, and really add to your dining experience. It doesn’t come as a surprise how eclectic the food is too! On this special occassion, which happened to be Mike’s 23rd birthday, we started off with an appetizer of beautiful asian crab cakes with a ponzu sauce that was infused with tea. Mike had a red snapper filet curry that came with sticky black rice with taro and coconut milk. My Portuguese pork chop was one of the most tender things I’ve had in awhile, and the potatoes were spiced with saffron and turmeric. The andouille sausage helped carry out and complete the rustic charm of this plate too. And let me just say now, this is the first place I plan on taking friends and family to when they visit.
And oh, dessert? Three words:
Earl Grey Ice-cream.
Italian Buttercream Cake
The Rib House
1801 13th St
Boulder, CO
1 more week till we return home!
Also, if you can’t tell, this cake is a massive, gargantuan treat that will ease all your troubles, any day, any time. The cake towers over the normal sized glass of water behind. And that mug of beer? It’s 24 ounces of Blue Moon. About $4ish during Happy Hour at the Rib House.
One of my biggest qualms about Boulder was the authenticity of their ethnic food. Growing up in central New Jersey, the best Malaysian/Indian/Japanese/Korean/Vietnamese/Mexican/Colombian food was literally a 10 minute drive away from my house.
How I miss it!
But we’ve been exploring what Boulder has to offer with open arms. While I’m not too happy with the Indian food selection (it’s more of a mix of Nepalese and “new american” -a term I’m using loosely simply because one of the best Indian restaurants here has filet mignon but NO lamb biryani)
And so I’m posting a picture of dhosa, the South Indian version of a crispy crepe that’s stuffed with spiced potatoes and equally good dipping sauces. You can’t find dhosas here, unfortunately. So this is a great oppurtunity to learn how to make them from scratch. That will be a whole nother post.
Fried Tempura Bananas
Aji Restaurant
1601 Pearl St.
Boulder, Co 80302-5401

This Latin American restaurant has an amazing happy hour which includes $2 dollar tacos (the shredded beef was my favorite, although Michael liked the duck tacos a lot), $2 drafts, and ceviches for $4. I’ve tried the chimichurri shrimp ceviche, which was deliciously paired with fried plantains. While the mixed drinks, such as mojitos look enticing during happy hour I would have to warn you that are slightly on the weak side. This dessert, which our bartender recommended for it’s decadence was lip smackingly good. The tempura batter is very light and fried bananas can make anyone weak in the knees. Let’s hope the monkeys never find out.
